The Expedition

My name is Laurence, I am a 12 year old schoolboy.  I am trying to raise money for a Personal Development Expedition to Morocco.  The Expedition has three main phases; Self Led Organisation – which means that I am responsible for money management and organising the expedition; Community Work – giving vital help to support rural schools in Morocco; a Trek – leading a team through remote Berber villages.

Last year the expedition completed an IT suite for a rural Moroccan school.

The team of boys from my school will organise the expedition, so who knows where we will end up!

A company assists us, they have experience of Morocco and take us through the details.

My Grandma went to the Berber mountains and gave away her hiking socks to a villager, who swapped them for a donkey!

Less than a month to go!  The community work that I am  going to undertake in Morocco is a new toilet block for a school up in the High Atlas mountains.

We will be shopping for food for the project and trekking phases, booking accommodation. We meet our transport for the long drive across to Iminwarg. On the way we stop off at the Cascades D‟Ouzoud for a chance to cool off in the pools at the bottom of the waterfalls.

The village of Iminwarg is located in a very isolated region in the Atlas Mountains. The gate to the school is unusable and in the summer kids enter the school yard, breaking windows and trashing the property. So we are going to build a new gate and door to protect the school. as well as allow trucks to enter bringing books and food supplies.

After three days of hard work we meet our guide for our trek in the mountains near the village. We will be navigating, cooking all of our meals and camping out under the starry skies of the Atlas Mountains.
