Introduction

Hello

My name is Laurence.  During my school Easter holidays in 2011 I will be visiting Morocco on a personal development expedition. A large part of the expedition involves working with the local community.

I have never been to Africa, but to take part I have to raise the money myself.

The Kingdom of Morocco is located in North Africa. It has a population of 32 million and an area of about 700.000 km². Morocco borders the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea, with Gibralter to the north. Algeria to the east, and Mauritania to the south. Rabat, in the north, is the capital city, but Casablanca and Marrakesh are more famous.

Morocco gained indepedence from France in 1956, after 44 years of rule. Morocco now has an elected parliament and a King. The people are mainly Arab-Berber and Moroccan Arabic is the main language.

The country includes parts of the Sahara Desert and the Atlas and Rif mountain ranges.

I have met Her Highness Princess Lalla Joumala Alaoui, the Moroccan Ambassador to Britain who told me many interesting things about Morocco.
